Shooting with the Retropia lens
Camera settings

Essential setting

Enable "Shoot Without Lens".

The Retropia lens is fully manual, so some cameras won't detect it right away. Enable Shoot Without Lens (or Release Without Lens) in your settings and you're ready.

If your camera already shoots, leave it alone.

Tip 01

Shoot in bright light.

This lens loves light. Shoot in well-lit environments and the soft glow, the flare, the depth all come alive. Dim rooms aren't its home.

Bright light photography

Tip 02

Use flash. Even in daylight.

Pair the lens with a flash and you get the real disposable feel. Brighter subjects, softer light, that warm analog depth.

Even in sunlight, flash adds glow and film-style character you can't fake in post.

Tip 03

Embrace imperfection.

Don't chase technical perfection. The beauty of this lens is what it doesn't do. A little blur, an offbeat frame, a stray flare. That's the feeling.

Tip 04

Get close. But not too close.

The lens is fixed-focus and lives between one and three meters. Step in for sharper portraits and stronger glow. Step too close and it goes soft.

Tip 05
